Mutiny On The Bounty, Meet Me In St. Louis
I cannot fathom how much I adore this record. Thomas Erak’s ‘sloppy’ playing is a staple in TFoT’s musical masterpiece. The re-recorded album, Phantom On The Horizon, doesn’t compare to this at all. Aside from adding a few extra guitar parts and vocals, it proves that a band’s older material is better (most of the time). POTH has slowed down versions of some of the songs too, which isn’t in TFoT’s nature at all.
I always spazz the fuck out to Part V whenever I’m in a crazy mood and scream until I feel sick.

How have I not thrown this up here yet!? Another one of the albums that changed the way I view music and probably the oldest. This is the release that sparked the emo genre and inspired many other bands to follow in their footsteps. The first listen through these 11 tracks left me in awe. Jeremy Enigk manages to write inspiring lyrics and melodies that hit the soul hard, while maintaining to stay soft and sentimental. Grendel is definitely my favourite track.
They recently had a reunion tour that I wish I could have gone to. Maybe next time.

Moving Mountains, Brand New, You Blew It!
This is a must for any emo fan. The twinkly/noodly song (Weekdays). The song with sad lyrics (Monuments). The MovMou-esque song (Cowboys). The soft song (Couches). The perfect ending (Astronauts). Some people have compared the release to Brand New and I don’t really see any trace except for possibly one song. Park Jefferson are pretty unique. I like where they are going.

We all like weed, right? Well apparently Dikembe never smoke it, but they can sure make a kick-ass record insinuating they do. Also Freaks And Geeks playing at the beginning and at the end of the record, how awesome are these guys?
So yeah, after another long absence, I’m back again. I see no reason to not continue this blog. Music is my life after all.

Midwest Pen Pals, Merchant Ships
What happens when you stick Ex-MPP and Merchant Ships guys in a basement for six days? They write and record these 3 songs. That’s incredibly fast for a decent sounding record with catchy licks and REALLY tight drumming. These guys are on hiatus now while Kyle and Scott go to college. Hopefully they’ll come back for a full-length. This EP just makes me reminisce of simpler times. Don’t we all get like that sometimes?

It’s not everyday you see a two-piece band, but a solid two-piece band as awesome as this is even rarer. The artwork explains it all. Days of sitting inside doing nothing with a smile on your face. Getting a call from your friends at any hour and going out. Living a real summer, hoping it doesn’t end. It’s a shame when bands like this break up (Only recently too), but these guys are now playing in Mallards.

If you’ve never heard proper Emo music before, this maybe the time for you to stop what you’re doing, download this and stick it in your ears. It’s a massive behemoth of a download standing at over 467MB, but it’s so worth it. The full list is over here if you’d like to check out the bands participating. So stoked after hearing new songs by Brave Bird and You Blew It! For you enthusiasts, there’s a good chance that there’s a few bands on here with an unreleased track that you haven’t heard yet, so get on it!
P.S. It’s actually free so you pirates don’t have to feel guilty about downloading it.
After pondering over the idea of merchandise, I scribbled up a few design ideas and decided to put up a BigCartel store online with some ‘Coming Soon’ Circa Saviour merch. Tell me if you think it’s a good idea and if you like the designs.
